Foster Auditorium
This historic structure on UA’s campus, site of “The Stand in the Schoolhouse Door,” was named after Richard Clarke Foster, the 16th University president, who died in office November 1941. When built, the multipurpose facility had a seating capacity of 5,400 and was used for graduation exercises, indoor athletics events, concerts, lectures and other large gatherings, including registration.
Foster Auditorium has been completely renovated and will house the Crimson Tide women’s basketball and volleyball programs. The lobby area will feature a virtual museum commemorating the events of June 11, 1963. Click on the images below to see panoramas of the auditorium’s interior before and after its renovation.
