Vivian Malone stepped through the schoolhouse door — and into history — on June 11, 1963. Two years later, she became the University’s first African-American graduate. Malone was among several people who played a key role in changing the history of our state and country and opening doors for generations to come. The website “A New Beginning: A Tribute to Courage and Progress” is a virtual museum that gives visitors a glimpse into the events surrounding that historic day in 1963 and spotlights the people connected with events on the UA campus.
